snow, indians and a recital

Hmm...I tried to post this a couple days ago but I guess it didn't go through...

So we finally got real snow in Wisconsin the other day. I woke up to an obnoxious scraping sound and was quite annoyed till I realized it was people scraping the 5 inches of snow or so off our porch! It all melted within 2 days but it was temporarily exciting.

Then comes my thanksgiving story: we were in church the other day and time came for the children's sermon. At some point the pastor asked the kids what the pilgrims ate at the first thanksgiving and one girl yells out "INDIANS!" hahaha

Finally, my friend Maura and I just found out our recital date- it will be Saturday, May 23rd at 6:30 pm. So...if you're driving through Appleton you should come see it! It'll be pretty sweet...or you could hold off till next year when I give an hour long recital by myself ;)

gnats

I got semi finals which is meh. but then I discovered something in the lesson after that that's going to change the way I sing for the better...So recital selection is next week and my recital is going to be aweeesome.

music update

I got a solo in the Messiah! It's the little bit before Glory to God that starts with "There were shepherds abiding in the field". So that's exciting. Also I'll be going to Whitewater Wisconsin (AKA...nowhere) for NATS this weekend so wish me luck!

Oasis

Well the opera cast list has gone up. I didn't get the role I wanted, but it turns out they were looking for a different type of voice so I didn't really stand much of a chance. I did get a pseudo part though, I even have a name though I never sing alone. But I am Oasis, a harem girl, who hangs out singing about how attractive people are...but it'll be fun :)

Well we've had quite a bit of excitement around here thes days. The entire female population and a good chunk of the male population were greatly thrilled when it was announced that THIS guy would be arriving on our campus.
Ah yes, Adam Brody. Star of the O.C, he played an awkward but loveable geek with dry sarcastic humor who captured the heart of many many american girls. And so he came to Lawrence with some model no one knew to toot the horn for Barak Obama.
Sadly he was mostly a disappointment. He showed up with a monster five o clock shadow and an either tired or drunk look about him...which was tolerable but he was pretty weak once he started speaking. I think he encouraged people to volunteer but a lot of people (including me) left fairly early into his speaking because he was such a weak speaker.

Meanwhile ....
Statistics is a tricky tricky thing...the reading makes no sense at all but what we were doing in class today made total sense so that was pretty exciting. German is goin along as per normal, learning about weather...thrilling. I'll update once auditions are done.

Fleet foxes!

Well I ended up not auditioning for the musical because it would have made my schedule pretty near impossible. but...then I realized that I could go to a concert I wanted to go to! So on the 10th I will be adventuring to the Fleet Foxes concert with Liam. We're also using it as part of our 2 year anniversary adventure. So here's a Fleet Foxes video for anyone who cares

The first picture here is from RLA training week when we got to put out fires which is always a party. It was unseasonably warm here for a while, being in the 80s during the day and 50s at night but Wisconsin seems to have finally remembered it's fall and gotten cold, just in time for classes. So classes started on wednesday and now I'm up to my eyes in homework from statistics, French Grammar and German.
This weekend was the Concert choir retreat which was made even more awesome by my friend Sarah making choir this year so my two best friends and I are all in the same choir now which makes life fun and easier to plan :). But yes we went on a concert choir retreat to Bjorklunden which was fun as always and great weather!
Some people stole pie...
We had a bonfire sing along

We also took all the mattresses off of the uncomfy bunk beds and made one giant bed in our room. Once we arrived back home, Sarah and I embarked on our first cooking adventure of many to come since we both have tiny meal plans. We made some fancy schmancy mac and cheese which turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. Opera auditions are next week but I'm trying not to get my hopes up as there's only one soprano part and lots and lots of sopranos...

Garden party

Well training is in it's last day since the freshmen get here tomorrow! Our big theme has been going green this year and so now in the spirit of things, I was working in the garden all day! Lawrence students run their own organic garden (Sustainable Lawrence University Garden- SLUG). I wish I had some pictures of the stuff we picked today but here's another picture of the garden and a pretty eggplant from someone else's garden. Ours were a prettier color though. We also picked six baskets of tomatoes (roma, cherry and normal), 2 large bags of squash, 1 bag of the afore-mentioned eggplants in white and purple, and 2 big buckets of carrots! All of which are now going to our school dining services in a campus wide effort to buy more locally grown and organic food. So that was a lot of fun and I'm hoping to work down there a lot more this year. I'm also hoping to do some ESL tutoring and teach intro French at the same school I taught music theory at my freshman year. So... a busy and exciting year ahead! Lots of auditions coming up but I managed to squeeze in a lesson with my voice teacher Mrs Bozeman last week so I feel on point. More updating to come!

heading back

Well it's about time to head back to school. Assuming hurricane Hanna doesn't rain me out. I fly back on sunday though so hopefully everything will be better by then. Anyways here's my address for the upcoming year.

Molly Wilson
Room 107
733 East Alton St.
Appleton, WI 54911

There's RA training for a week, then a week with just the freshmen then all the rest of the students move in and craziness ensues. But I'll post pictures of my room as soon as it's nice and organized. More posts once I have more to talk about which is essentially when school starts!

summertime photoplosion

Summertime...means adventures on the farm. a couple farms actually. First Liam came to visit for a weekend and he had been reading the Omnivore's Dilemma and realized one of the farms mentioned in the book was about an hour away. So we journeyed to Polyface farm in Staunton (inexplicably pronounced Stanton) and saw many a chicken and lovely Virginia view.

And then some carmen pictures, mostly from rehearsals

That last picture is of the three mollys who worked on the production. we were all sort of surprised to find so many other mollys...

And then sometimes as interns we had to visit another farm. A much wealthier horse farm that rents the company a barn to keep all our stuff in. So me and my fellow intern spent a lot of time doing nothing special up there...and taking pictures of it.

and thus ends the photoplosion.

Like a back issue but in video form

Well here are some old videos. just so they're all in one spot I suppose.

First video is excerpts from Schubert's Mass in G with the First Congregational Church of Appleton, WI Choir

The second is Sposa Son Disprezzata from my studio class

and okay actually I only had two videos so enjoy!

Moving day!

I figured it's about time I moved on from livejournal which generally hosts overemotional tweens venting about not getting cars for their super sweet sixteens. So new hosting site, new layout, it's just excitement all around today!

Anyways, so the Ash Lawn Opera season is starting to draw to an end but I figured I should post some pictures for those of you who weren't able to make it to the show, or those of you who did but just want to stare at some pictures.

Anyways here are some loverly pictures of assorted scenes. Enjoy! Oh, at some point I'll be moving all those videos over to this site to simplify any searching you may want to do.

Well after much tragedy of realizing I left my camera cord in Wisconsin, I had to order a new one from Hong Kong. Of course once it finally came, I left it in Richmond...but it's coming up with mom tomorrow so soon I'll post my own pictures from the show, as well as Liam's visit which mostly was an adventure to a farm in the middle of nowhere Virginia and whatever else I took pictures of...alrighty then. Keep checking here! Change your bookmarks!
