oh right...posting

So sometimes school gets hard and you forget you have this blog that you're in theory updating with your life.

Well I did my best at the concerto competition, and though I didn't win (singers never do) the Maestro of the orchestra came up to me and told me how much he appreciated the singing I've been doing lately so that felt pretty good. He's not a man to give compliments lightly.

So then it was getting ready for summer program auditions which is like summer camp all over again but for older people. I'm applying to programs in Aspen, Brevard NC and Chautauqua NY and we will just seeeee

But, before the school year was out, my voice teacher and her husband (chair of the voice dept.) held their annual christmas party for all their students full of cheer and singing.

Clearly I've been home since I've seen nearly everyone I'm related to over this break. Thanksgiving and Christmas were good though time went sort of disturbingly fast, and I'm due back to Wisconsin in a few days. but here are some pictures from my adventures at home. I was home for six weeks and took like..6 pictures

and here's some of my friends

and so finally I guess I'll chat about what my plans are for next year because people are asking. This is a vague answer but that'll be fine. All I know now is that I'm moving to chicago...hopefully finding a job in a montessori school for a year before applying to grad schools. And so i leave you with a picture of me in chicago freshman year. it's very circular.

Happy Halloween

This is a very dull halloween. The concerto competition is tomorrow so I went to a party with all my friends for...40 minutes before it was too loud and i had to go home. But look at my lovely pumpkin!

I can't give a recording of the competition though it is open and friends are coming to watch...also if I win the concert will be on internet radio for all to hear. But the chances of me winning are a shot in hell–the last time a singer won this competition was so long ago that literally no one can remember it. But here's someone else singing two of the 5 (someone that I might study with in grad school hopefully)! you should especially check out the second one

Haircuts or How Molly Lost an Afternoon to Photoshop

Yes I have decided to bring the 1930s back via my hair. It's a small effort but we'll see what happens. This haircut mostly grew on me when I realized the photoshop potential of making a million photos looking vaguely like they came from the 1910s-1930s.

It seemed like a decent way to spend a rainy afternoon. Trivia weekend at Bjorklunden was fantastic. Sorry there haven't been a lot of posts. I haven't taken tons of pictures lately and I feel cheap when I post things without pictures.

It was fall here for a nice long time but then this wretched rain appeared a couple of days ago and since then all our leaves have migrated to the ground. It snowed too but that doesn't count because it didn't stick. I'm pretty pleased that I'll be in Virginia where it's decently warm from thanksgiving to new years...though it'll make coming back to negative temperatures rather depressing.

But we just discovered that the bowling alley/bar near our school has free bowling for those over 21 because of their desperation for some business so we were pleased to take full advantage of free bowling (this is what there is to do in Appleton Wisconsin).

some stuff which is happening or has already happened.

Well Opera auditions went down with lots of drama. Very long and painful story short I didn't get the role but was given super kudos and encouragement, including one of our most critical teachers urging me to continue on in music because I have a future waiting for me in it. So...yeah okay. So I ran off to the woods for the weekend with some friends and started working on my new project

So now my new project is the Concerto Competition, which is actually a bigger deal than the opera auditions because a vocalist hasn't won since the early 80s...it's a conservatory wide competition with three representatives from each division (violins, singers, trombones etc) and three winners get to perform their solo with the orchestra in a simulcast orchestra concert. So that's nifty...I have about a month to pull that together super fast...hooray!

In other news I made it onto the official Lawrence Youtube channel. My life is pretty much complete now. Matt's story is more moving and I look like I haven't slept in days which is accurate because alex (the filmmaker) called me at 8am and asked me to come do the interview but it's my claim to fame

I've also been writing the "artist spotlight" column for my school newspaper which you can check out weekly at http://www.lawrentian.com/

And...I am busy busy busy. OH! And I'm a trivia master! this is very exciting for everyone who is me. That means that at the end of january I'll stop sleeping and be a little bit crazy but in the best way :)

Training!

HRLA training done. RLA training in full swing. Not a whole lot to report. Maura got back today and Tim gets back on sunday so soon I will be filled with joy. For now I just got to put out fires which was pretty cool...my friend John documented the whole tragedy.

This was me a while after starting to put out the fire...

almost back to school...

Hmm...well I guess people DO still read this as a weekend at the beach confirmed. So the big news is that I'm going to be the Head RLA in Trever Hall this year so I can...basically do the same thing I did before. It's pretty minor but it means a pay raise which i'm pleased about. Pictures from trip home to follow

New room, old dorm

Well here I am back in Trever. Promptly after moving in I work up with some impressive nausea etc. I am deciding not to take it as a sign. So i'm not really unpacked but here's a preview of my room

I may have some exciting news tomorrow... I'll post. Though I suspect now that half of the fam is on facebook that's mostly what they're looking at anyways. Little do they know I have made all these fancy header changes and my life probably makes more sense through this medium than facebook. so...there.

Summer activities

So when my friends Stephen and Alicia approached me earlier this summer and told me about a webisode project they wanted to start filming this summer, I got pretty excited to see what they could come up with. When they asked me to be in it I got more excited. Anyways, webisode 1 rough cut is up on the internets so I thought I'd link to it here. More to come in the future- shocking plot twists, more hair flipping

More and More adventures!

This has been a lovely summer. My friend Jeff came back from Indiana and it was a day of much rejoicing. He and my friend Molly (it's confusing, yes) have decided to ditch their vegetarian ways...in theory, except they wimped out for our bonfire and weended up roasting veggie italian sausages which were really quite delicious. Then we ate smores till we thought we would die...it was great

Then Jeff and I and a couple of our friends went up to Michigan! Tim and Liam are working at the Interlochen art camp so we visited them and went camping in the national park literally across the street. On the way up we also discovered the lovely town of Charlevoix, Michigan and it's summer carnival which made us about 45 minutes later than we planned...the upper peninsula of Michigan is a really lovely place. This whole trip was totally amazing and Michigan was beautiful. I wish I had pictures of the lake on the day we went swimming–the water looked like something from a tropical island, turqoise and see through. It was awesome. But I don't have pictures because we ran down a dune so steep, I realized midway through "running" (I don't really have a good word for the action downhill that was keeping me from just falling) that the clouds were sideways from the angle. So now I'm in appleton for a while with no exciting plans till I head back home for a brief bit :)

There were also these little ballroom dancing kids at the festival that were completely amazing. we sat and watched them for a while totally transfixed

I've been working at Build-A-Bear which is adventures galore. It's actually pretty cute though :) This weekend I'm here and not working so I'm not even sure what I'll be doing. My friend Jeff just came back to Appleton so I'm excited to hang with him! And then next weekend we're going up to visit Tim at Interlochen in Michigan which I cannot wait for! It's so beautiful up there! Post pictures when I get back :D

Summer in wisco

So summer is strolling along. Thanks to everyone who sent b.day wishes! My birthday was pretty great–a group of friends and I went out to some bars and had fun without having too much fun :D

I've gotten a couple of part time jobs around here so this summer should end up quite alright! There's been some random adventures around here. On the 2nd of July Tim called and said he was going to Chicago and a bunch of our friends live down there so i found a ride and with little to no planning went on a spontaneous adventure to Chicago!

we hung out in my friends mike and jacob's apartment most nights. We spent the 4th of july on their roof with fireworks going off in every direction for hours! It was pretty fantastic.

and then here are some random pictures. The first one is from chicago, at my friend's annie, clare and peter's house where a tiny baby was getting passed around :) the next two are from a marshmallow bonfire Tim, Jeff and I made and the last one is typical Jacob on the front lawn with his banjo from the end of school

Going to Milwaukee this weekend and Michigan in 2 weeks! Summer of adventure!

summer injuries

Haha you guys can look for some more entries this summer because I have a lot of free time which I love. I'm getting so much work done now that will save my sanity in the fall (planning my senior recital, learning opera audition material, writing my tutorial syllabus etc). Tragically a lot of that involves me playing the piano/typing which was made rather difficult by a series of stupid events. First while I was moving I did...something. I vaguely remember 3 or 4 incidents that could have caused this but that evening my 4th finger on the right hand was giaaant and swollen. It's better now but it still doesn't like to bend all the way. Then there was an incident with a ceiling fan...
anyways my hands look like this now

boo. Oh well. Wish me luck on my job interview. Maura came to visit this weekend which was nice and I found my driver's license which is good because there isn't much use in a 21st birthday if you can't prove you're 21 :)

summerrrr..

That's my new room! it only took just on the side of forever to move in... but now I'm moved in and I get to move all over again in two months...
I'm keeping myself pretty busy up here, preparing for senior recital, teaching aural skills lessons, working for residence life in addition to doing RLA stuff. I've also applied for a couple of jobs so we'll see what happens with that. If anyone needs the new mailing address you can email me at wilsonmo@lawrence.edu and I'll send it to you.
I have a couple little trips happening this summer. One of my best friends is living in Milwaukee this summer so I'll be going down there to visit her a weekend or two. In July my friend Jeff and I are heading out to Michigan to visit Tim and to get some "beach" time. I'll probably be in Virginia for a week in august (probably the second week) so hopefully I'll see some of you then. Otherwise I'll be back from november to january next year and you'll be completely sick of me!

drawing to an end...

So spring continues to be springy...sort of. by that i mean it hovers between 50-65 degrees. But with one week left of classes everything is getting sort of silly around here. Saturday night was a fraternity formal that I went to with a friend and sarah and her boyfriend and a bunch of our other friends found dates and it was much more of a party than a dance with proper dates.
Then came the choir olympics which is a very silly occasion where we get the probably most unathletic group of people on campus and ask them to participate in a series of foolish events. One of which is the official sport of concert choir which was invented a couple years ago and played annually which consists of two circles of people who walk around while some choir member plays songs about birds/flying etc for a while until screaming "BIRDIE ON A PERCH! BIRDIE ON A PERCH!" at which point someone from the inner circle and someone from the outer circle need to pair up and one of them must be entirely off the ground, "perched" on the other person...anyways...it results in a lot of silly pictures.

we also took a boat out onto the lake behind bjella's lake.

and here's a picture from opera scenes. recital went well too but I dont have any pictures of that because mom took 'em all. So when i get some from her I'll post 'em. But...the recital went really well and I felt really good about it all!
