This is a very dull halloween. The concerto competition is tomorrow so I went to a party with all my friends for...40 minutes before it was too loud and i had to go home. But look at my lovely pumpkin!
I can't give a recording of the competition though it is open and friends are coming to watch...also if I win the concert will be on internet radio for all to hear. But the chances of me winning are a shot in hell–the last time a singer won this competition was so long ago that literally no one can remember it. But here's someone else singing two of the 5 (someone that I might study with in grad school hopefully)! you should especially check out the second one
Yes I have decided to bring the 1930s back via my hair. It's a small effort but we'll see what happens. This haircut mostly grew on me when I realized the photoshop potential of making a million photos looking vaguely like they came from the 1910s-1930s.
It seemed like a decent way to spend a rainy afternoon. Trivia weekend at Bjorklunden was fantastic. Sorry there haven't been a lot of posts. I haven't taken tons of pictures lately and I feel cheap when I post things without pictures.
It was fall here for a nice long time but then this wretched rain appeared a couple of days ago and since then all our leaves have migrated to the ground. It snowed too but that doesn't count because it didn't stick. I'm pretty pleased that I'll be in Virginia where it's decently warm from thanksgiving to new years...though it'll make coming back to negative temperatures rather depressing.
But we just discovered that the bowling alley/bar near our school has free bowling for those over 21 because of their desperation for some business so we were pleased to take full advantage of free bowling (this is what there is to do in Appleton Wisconsin).
Well Opera auditions went down with lots of drama. Very long and painful story short I didn't get the role but was given super kudos and encouragement, including one of our most critical teachers urging me to continue on in music because I have a future waiting for me in it. So...yeah okay. So I ran off to the woods for the weekend with some friends and started working on my new project
So now my new project is the Concerto Competition, which is actually a bigger deal than the opera auditions because a vocalist hasn't won since the early 80s...it's a conservatory wide competition with three representatives from each division (violins, singers, trombones etc) and three winners get to perform their solo with the orchestra in a simulcast orchestra concert. So that's nifty...I have about a month to pull that together super fast...hooray!
In other news I made it onto the official Lawrence Youtube channel. My life is pretty much complete now. Matt's story is more moving and I look like I haven't slept in days which is accurate because alex (the filmmaker) called me at 8am and asked me to come do the interview but it's my claim to fame
I've also been writing the "artist spotlight" column for my school newspaper which you can check out weekly at http://www.lawrentian.com/
And...I am busy busy busy. OH! And I'm a trivia master! this is very exciting for everyone who is me. That means that at the end of january I'll stop sleeping and be a little bit crazy but in the best way :)
